Spring Planting

Every spring, I want to jazz up the back patio and buy a bunch of annuals. I get really gung-ho, plant a bunch of potted flowers, and then gradually over the course of summer, get too lazy to water them. They slowly wither and die, and by August I have a garden of yellowed husks.

This year is no exception, so as soon as we had one non-rainy weekend afternoon, I ran to Fred Meyer and bought a ton of plants.

Three weeks later on our second non-rainy weekend afternoon, I could finally pot them.

Fuchsia starts for the hanging baskets.

New pots, new plants

Old pots, new plants

Did you know that you can buy a huge hanging basket of fuchsias at Costco for $14.99? I didn't until after I spent almost that amount on starts plus the time and materials to pot them in baskets half the size of the Costco ones. Live and learn.

Will these plants last the summer? Or will I quit watering them halfway through June? We'll have to wait and see....
