I haven't rollerskated in about 20 years, but it seemed like the perfect way to spend the evening tonight. So me, the kids, and my buddy, Rebecca, hit the Lynnwood Bowl & Skate.
OK, first of all, it's way, way easier to put roller skates on when you are a flexible kid. It's a lot harder when you are old, and harder still after eating a big spaghetti dinner. But we managed.
Looking out at the roller rink was like going back in time. Same wood floor, same disco ball, same squiggly light shows on the floor. All I needed were my stirrup pants and sprayed up bangs.
I've never felt nostalgia so hard as when I skated around the rink, watching the light patterns on the floor. Until the DJ put on "Beat It". And I was 10 years old again for a few moments.
These were taken with my phone, so they aren't the greatest pictures, but here's the roller rink:

Oh yeah, lights off:

Colin and Lucy had fun, but they aren't the greatest skaters. Remember those kids that always hugged the wall? That was them.

Looks like fun! It also looks pretty empty for a hopping Friday or Saturday night...guess the kids now-a-days don't know its THEE place to hangout

ReplyDeleteWe had our end-of-the year party at Lynnwood Bowl & Skate when I was in fifth grade! (I'm not going to pinpoint any specific dates, but let's just say that was a long time ago.) It looks exactly the same. I wonder if they still serve the same crappy nachos.
